  • How effective is the career placement office at the BYU law school?
The Law School's Career Services staff is available to offer encouragement and advice to all students and alumni. They work with a wide variety of employers from across the nation and world. By graduation, about three-fourths of the students are employed and over ninety percent by February 15th of the following year. Click here for more information on Career Services and statistics.

  • If I don't perform well on the LSAT, should I retake it?
The committee recommends a retake only if an applicant expects a major improvement. However, the highest score will be considered for admission, as the Law School is now required by the ABA to report the highest score rather than the average.

  • How early should I file my admissions application?
The Law School encourages early applications and recommends that they be completed by January 1st of the year in which admission is sought. Early applications may be filed even though the applicant has not yet taken the LSAT, although the file will not be reviewed until it is complete. The deadline for submission of all JD application materials is March 1, 2007.

  • When will I be notified of the acceptance or rejection of my application?
If the application is completed by March 1, applicants will be notified no later than April 15th. The notification may only advise the applicant that he or she has been placed on the waiting list. Those on the waiting list will be advised gradually--possibly as late as the day school starts--whether they are to be admitted.

  • What do I do when I am given an offer of acceptance?
If you wish to accept the offer, you must mail a deposit of $200 to the Law School by the date listed in the offer letter. The deposit is credited toward tuition for those who enroll. Refer also to the procedure after acceptance.
