BYU Law School Career Services Office Staff

 

Mary Hoagland, Assistant Dean

Ms. Hoagland joined the Career Services Office in 1994 after practicing law for six years in Fresno, California where she was an active participant and board member in the Central California Bankruptcy Association and Fresno Women’s Network. She was a judicial clerk to Judge Eckhart A. Thompson and subsequently to Judge Richard T. Ford, both of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California, from 1986 to 1988. She served on the NALP Board of Directors from 2004-2006 and chaired the 2009 NALP Annual Education Conference Committee. She received a BA in English from BYU, an MA in Education from San Diego State University, a JD from San Joaquin College of Law in 1985, and a Ph.D. in Education from BYU in 2009. She teaches Professional Development courses.

 

Beth Hansen, Director

Ms Hansen joined the Career Services Office in the spring of 1999. She received a J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1995 and a BA in Mathematics from Brigham Young University in 1989. Ms. Hansen taught junior high school mathematics for two years before attending law school. She spent four years practicing law in Las Vegas, primarily in the areas of medical malpractice, collections, bankruptcy and insurance defense. Ms. Hansen chairs NALP's Career Paths for Lawyers Coommittee and manages the Judicial Clerkship Web Site for the Northwest Consortium. She is also the Faculty Chair for the Arbitration Panel for the BYU Center for Conflict Resolution.

 

Karen Andrews, Off-Campus Recruiting Coordinator & Externship Advisor

Ms. Andrews joined the Career Services Office in July 2001. Prior to that, she lived in Tampa, Florida for 23 years. She attended both the University of Utah and University of South Florida, receiving her BA in Health Education from USF. While living in Tampa, Ms. Andrews taught in both elementary and middle school's while raising her 3 children. Additionally, she also worked for two private law firms. Ms. Andrews specializes in the areas of Off-Campus Recruiting and Externships. She manages the New York and DC Interviewing Programs, the Las Vegas and Southern California Job Fairs, the Loyola Patent Fair Program, NYU's International Student Interview Program and other regional job fairs. In addition, she works with students in the Externship Program.
