Groupwise Outlook Connector vs. IMAP vs. POP: Some of you more technical students may be wondering what the best way is to import your lawschool email into Outlook. Novell provides an Outlook Connector for GroupWise that allows you to use MS Outlook as a client for GroupWise. Unlike IMAP access, the Connector provides full access to most GroupWise functionality, including the GroupWise Address Book and Calendar. For information on the features available with the Outlook Connector vs. the standard Groupwise client, please see this Novell Website. If you decide to use the Groupwise Outlook Connector (the best option for Outlook) please see below for instructions.
IMAP is another way to import your lawschool email into Outlook. IMAP is similar to POP, they are both protocols to retrieve e-mail from a server. In a nut shell IMAP is a newer and better protocol, if you want to know more about IMAP and why it is better I would suggest reading what Wikipedia has to say on the subject. If you still want to use POP to retrieve your e-mail, instructions can be found here: POP Setup for Outlook
Disclaimer:We provide technical support only for the Groupwise email client and we reccommend that all students use the Groupwise email client, click here to download the Groupwise client if you you decide to use Outlook please be aware that this is the only help we can offer for Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. If you have any other questions, you are on your own.
Please note: This only works with Outlook 2003 and earlier, currently Outlook 2007 is not supported. The HelpDesk does not support Microsoft Outlook; this information is provided as a convenience for those who insist upon using Outlook only. Although no formal support is provided for either the Connector or IMAP access, we recommended using the Connector rather than IMAP.
The Outlook Connector for GroupWise may be downloaded here, this will download a .zip file which must be extracted (right click folder and choose 'Extract All...'), then click on setup.exe to start the install process. The Connector installation includes the Outlook components necessary to connect to the GroupWise system but does not include Micrsoft Outlook.
When starting the Outlook client please enter the following address and port and the client will be automatically directed to the correct post office:
