Continuing a tradition now entering its tenth year, Brigham Young University hosted an international law and religion symposium. This year’s conference focused on “Religious Pluralism, Difference and Social Stability.” Participants included leading experts and government officials from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Pacific, and North and South America.

The conference focused on "New Impulses in the Interaction of Law and Religion." Participants included leading experts and government officials from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Pacific, and North and South America.

  • Trends in media coverage of religious believers and organizations
  • New issues and approaches in the treatment of religious minorities
  • Initiatives in legislative reform
  • Effective methods of securing religious tolerance and freedom in a changed world
  • Attempts at redefining the acceptable limitations of religious freedom to protect public order
  • Problems and questions faced by public officials responsible for dealing with religious affairs in their respective countries.

The 2002 Cesnur International Conference was held at The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. and Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, U.S.A.

This International Conference provided an opportunity for scholars from around the world to share their insights and perceptions concerning the reaction and adaptation of individuals, religions and secular institutions to the growing diversity in many countries. There was discussion, clarification, and exchange of information during the conference and participants had an opportunity to develop wider networks. The formal proceedings began on the evening of Thursday, June 20, and ended on Sunday, June 23. Before and after the conference there was an opportunity to visit major attractions in Salt Lake City and other locations of interest in Utah.
