Washington Weekend Supreme Court Swearing In

On May 21, 2012, Dean James R. Rasband stood before the United States Supreme Court Justices and presented a motion for forty law alumni to be admitted to the United States Supreme Court bar. The event was part of the Washington Weekend Supreme Court Swearing In sponsored every two years by the BYU Law School and the BYU Law Alumni Association.

Following the swearing in, a reception was held at the Courts.  Participants were honored to receive a visit from Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Justice Samuel A. Alito and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who stopped by to offer congratulations and visit with BYU Law alumni and friends.

The weekend started on Saturday, May 19 with tours of the National Gallery, National Archives and Holocaust Museum. Sunday was a dinner and fireside held at the BYU Barlow Center with Dean Rasband speaking on “Forgiving Grievous Harms: Considering the Atonement as Restitution.”

The weekend concluded with the Rex E. Lee Luncheon where Justice Thomas R. Lee, of the Utah Supreme Court was the keynote speaker. Those in attendance appreciated Senator Mike Lee and his staff for providing a private tour of the US Capitol.

The next Washington Weekend Supreme Court Swearing In will be June 9, 2014.
