Black Law Students Association (BLSA)

Who we are:

Founded in 2008, the BYU chapter of BLSA is one of the newest student organizations at the J. Reuben Clark Law School and one of the best connected. The National Black Law Students Association (www.nblsa.org) is the largest student run organization in the United States with over 6,000 members in 48 states. The mission of NBLSA is to articulate and promote the needs and goals of black law students and effectuate change in the legal community.

What we do:

  • Provide a supportive social atmosphere for students of all races and to build bridges of understanding between black law students and others in our law school community.
  • Articulate and promote the educational, professional, political and social needs and goals of black law students.
  • Aid in the recruitment and retention of black law students and professors.
  • Help first-year students acclimate to law school.
  • Encourage scholarship and excellence among black law students.
  • Encourage interaction with other black legal professionals.

Membership:

Any law student may be a member of BLSA regardless of race or color. BLSA exists to promote and nurture diversity at the law school and welcomes all students interested in our mission. Please contact a member of BLSA student leadership for more information.
