International Law Students Association

Who We Are

The International & Comparative Law Society is a student-run organization for those interested in international and comparative law. From special presentations with renowned foreign professors, attorneys and diplomats to unique multicultural events, ILSA aims not only to present the latest developments in the international field, but also to serve as a network for those who might be interested in practicing law in the international arena in the future.

ILSA is BYU’s chapter of the International Law Students Association (ILSA), a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. The organization’s activities include academic conferences, publications, the global coordination of student chapters, and the administration of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

What We Do

ILSA co-sponsors several local and international conferences on international law. This year's International Conference will be held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The theme is "Universalism and Regionalism in International Law." We also encourage participation in ILSA's local regional conferences, such as this year's Fall Conference & Congress in Washington, D.C. The theme is "Understanding Genocide."

ILSA is also deeply involved with the international activities here at the law school, the business school, and the main campus. In addition to sponsoring international VIP speakers and exciting panel discussions, ILSA provides student volunteers and interpreters to the International Law & Religion Symposium each fall. ILSA also sponsors an annual International Bazaar where students can sample a taste of the unique international cultures here at BYU.

How to Join

Joining ILSA is easy! The only requirement is a one-time annual payment of $5 for dues which are used to subsidize the cost of our activities. Just pay to Justin Hess at carrel #407 with your name and e-mail address. You are also welcome to visit the ILSA booth at the law school’s club fair during the first part of the fall semester. We look forward to seeing you at our next club event!
