Class Add/Drop Procedures

All adding and dropping of classes must be cleared through Nancy Hamberlin. DO NOT go to your professors for approval. Note registration deadlines.

The BYU Registation Office coordinates the registration process each semester and term. Contact the Registration Office if you have questions regarding updating your contact information or obtaining your RouteY login information. Click on the link above to transfer to the BYU Registration office.

Information for Students

Student Progress Reports and Letters of Ranking

Student progress reports and letters of ranking are sent out twice a year. They are sent once in February and once in June. You should make several copies of these reports for recruiting/job search purposes.

An official transcript must be obtained from the BYU records office located in the Abraham S. Smoot Building (ASB) for a $2 fee.

Graduation Information

  • There is only one formal graduation ceremony for the Law School which is held in April.
  • Cap and gown information will be sent to all graduating students in March.
  • December graduation interviews are held in September.
  • April graduation interviews are held in November.

Externship Registration Information

Externship Log materials should be submitted to Nancy Hamberlin, 240 JRCB, other secretary, 239-B JRCB. Journals should be submitted weekly to ejournals@law.byu.edu. The pre-registration form is filled out at the time of picking up the externship log. The Learning Plan should be turned in within the first two weeks of starting your externship.

For every earned credit of externship experience, you must complete 50 hoursof work. You are allowed a maximum of 3 externship credits during Fall/Winter, and 4 externship credits during Spring/Summer. Externship credit counts against the 15 hour limitation rule (Directed Research Law 790R, Externship Law 599R classes, and Co-Curricular Law 792R and 793R classes).
