Location: Doha, Qatar,
Dates: November 29 - 30, 2004
Venue: Sheraton Hotel
The Doha International
Conference for the Family celebrates the 10th anniversary of the
International Year of the Family and will highlight and collect the
family-related efforts of governments, academicians, faith-based organizations,
non-governmental organizations (NGO's), and members of civil society during a
year-long series of events. This Global Forum is under the patronage of Her
Highness ah bint Nasser Al-Misned, Consort of His Highness the Emir of Qatar,
and President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, State of Qatar.
The Doha International
Conference for the Family is the grand culminating event following regional
conferences on the family that were held in Mexico City (World Congress of
Families III), Stockholm, Sweden (Regional Conference on the Family), Geneva,
Switzerland (European Regional Dialogue
on the Family), and Kuala Lumpur (Asian/Pacific Regional Dialogue on the
Family). In addition, findings from other family conferences held around the
world including Africa, Latvia, Poland, Egypt, Argentina, and many others,
along with 130 community meetings held internationally, will be reported.
Discussions, recommendations, and findings
from these events have been channeled to the main international conference in
Doha, Qatar.
The Conference represents an
international assemblage bringing together international VIPs, governmental
organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), scholars, academicians
and civil society leaders who will be invited by the State of Qatar to
participate for the purpose to call upon all nations of the world to restate
the principles related to family life embodied in the Universal Declaration on
Human Rights, and to adhere to values and endeavor to promote the role of the
family as it is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is
entitled to protection by society and state.
The Conference will conclude its
events be adopting the Doha Declaration which will carry a message to the
states of the world emphasizing the importance of restating the family and will
call upon governments to be committed to promote the role of family and its
protection as a fundamental unit of which society is made.
After the conclusion of these
events, the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, in cooperation with pro-family
NGO's, will prepare a book that compiles the most prominent events and academic
findings of the Conference.
